On Broughton Street in Victoria, the Royal Theatre was built in 1913 at the height of the city's building boom and ranks among Canada's finest surviving examples of large-scale vaudeville theatre architecture. Its polychrome brick and glazed terra-cotta facade is a local landmark. Seating about 1,400, it was designated a National Historic Site in 1987. It hosts concerts, shows and varied performances.
