About this event

Welcome to Montréal, the French Capital of the Americas, set in the middle of the grand St. Lawrence River. This distinctive, multicultural city takes pride in its French and English heritage while remaining open to the world. On this self-guided audio tour led by Context Travel expert and tour guide Bruno-Serge Boucher, you'll learn how the city came into being. You'll also see where the French dropped anchor, where the Catholic Church established its churches, and where English entrepreneurs set up their banks and businesses. The route begins at the corner of Place d'Youville and Place Royale, on the very spot where Montréal was founded in 1647. After taking in the splendour of the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, you'll move on to Place Jacques-Cartier, a square often alive with markets and festivities. You'll finish at the Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Chapel, the same chapel featured in the song “Suzanne” by Leonard Cohen, a Montreal native.
