A Catholic cathedral in Winnipeg's French-speaking Saint-Boniface neighbourhood and the seat of the archdiocese. The 1908 church, designed by Quebec architects Marchand and Haskell, burned on 22 July 1968; only the facade, the outer walls and the sacristy survived. Those stone ruins were preserved and now frame the cathedral built in 1972 by architects Étienne Gaboury and Denis Lussier. The forecourt and the adjoining cemetery, where Louis Riel is buried, draw visitors, commemorations and cultural gatherings.
