A landmark hotel on Victoria's Inner Harbour at 721 Government Street. Built between 1904 and 1908 for the Canadian Pacific Railway to a design by Francis Rattenbury, architect of the province's legislative buildings, its silhouette recalls a Loire Valley manor. Enlarged within a few years of opening and now holding more than 400 rooms and suites, the Empress is a National Historic Site and a common starting point for city tours.
