One of Canada's largest proscenium theatres, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre sits in downtown Vancouver on Hamilton Street. Opened in 1959 and named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who attended its grand opening that July, it is part of the Vancouver Civic Theatres. Seating close to 2,900, it is home to Ballet BC and Vancouver Opera and remains the city's premier stage for touring Broadway productions.
