An Art Moderne movie house on College Street in the heart of Toronto's Little Italy, the Royal opened in 1939 as the Pylon, designed by architect Benjamin Swartz. A major restoration brought the room back close to its original look, and its 390 seats now serve a double life: an independent cinema by day and an intimate live room for candlelit concerts, comedy nights and special screenings.
