St. Lawrence Market anchors Toronto's Old Town on Front Street East. The South Market building opened in 1845 as a combined city hall, police station and jail, Toronto's first city hall, and was converted into a public market in 1902. More than fifty vendors sell produce, meat and cheese on the main floor, the Market Gallery upstairs mounts changing exhibitions on the city's history, and the halls double as a backdrop for guided tours and live mystery games.
