Fort York National Historic Site in Toronto preserves the garrison founded in 1793 to defend the town of York. Site of the Battle of York in 1813 during the War of 1812, it holds Canada's largest collection of military buildings from that era, with seven of its eight original structures still standing. Designated a National Historic Site in 1923, its grounds host festivals, celebrations and large gatherings such as the FIFA Fan Festival.
