Bounded by Elgin Street, Laurier Avenue and the Rideau Canal in downtown Ottawa, Confederation Park is a National Historic Site of Canada laid out for the 1967 centennial. Paved paths circle a granite fountain honouring Colonel By, a totem pole given by British Columbia and the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument. Its open lawn doubles as a stage: the Ottawa Jazz Festival in summer, Winterlude's ice sculptures in winter and Canada Day crowds.
