Newspeak is an intimate bar and music venue near Montreal's Quartier des spectacles, on Sainte-Elisabeth Street. With a capacity of about 300, it has become the local go-to for avant-garde electronic music: underground DJs and bold live sets in a dark room with a heavy sound system. Its name, borrowed from the novel 1984, plays on a dystopian speakeasy aesthetic of bare brick and moody lighting.
