Citadel Hill (Fort George), atop Citadel Hill, is a 19th-century star-shaped British fortress designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Completed in 1856 to defend the strategic port of Halifax, it is now run by Parks Canada with costumed interpreters and a daily cannon firing. Its broad grounds also host outdoor events and festivals.
