A national museum at 100 rue Laurier in Gatineau, on the Quebec bank of the Ottawa River across from Parliament Hill. Its rolling, sculpted building was designed by Indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal and built between 1983 and 1989, its curves meant to evoke a continent shaped by wind, rivers and glaciers. The Grand Hall, lit by a window 15 metres high, anchors exhibitions tracing 15,000 years of human history in Canada.
