About this event

Our walk begins at Canada Place, one of Vancouver's most recognizable landmarks. We slip through a secret tunnel to the Convention Centre to take in the city's finest Coal Harbour views, including the Port of Vancouver, the North Shore Mountains, Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge and the big yellow sulphur pile. Another hidden route reveals the Convention Centre's grass roof and the Olympic Cauldron. On the way to Gastown, we pass the Marine Building and Waterfront Station. In Gastown, we explore Water Street, the oldest street in Vancouver, and its story of decline and 1970s revival. We time our visit to catch the Steam Clock's fullest performance at noon. At Maple Tree Square, we stop where Gassy Jack opened his first bar, sparking the settlement that became Vancouver, and talk about why his statue was taken down. In Blood Alley you will see some of the city's oldest buildings and its fascinating architecture. We wrap up at the Woodward's Building and Victory Square, centrally located near transit and plenty of dining options.
