About this event

A guided walking tour through the LGBTQ+ history of Quebec City, led by someone who belongs to the community it describes. Over the course of an hour, the route traces the documented presence of LGBTQ+ people as far back as New France, then turns to the pioneers who built the city's community life, along with plenty of episodes that standard Old Quebec itineraries leave out. There is a commitment attached to the ticket itself: beyond backing a queer-run initiative, five percent of every sale goes to an LGBTQ+ organisation based in the provincial capital, so the walk funds the community it talks about. The tour is designed to be inclusive and open to everyone, whether or not you are part of the community yourself, with no background knowledge assumed and nothing taken for granted. As the organisers put it, the point of the exercise is to bring New France out of the closet.
