About this event

Museum admission, a private artist-led tour and a hands-on mosaic glass workshop combine into a single visit at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax. The tour is led by the First Nations glass artist family behind the installation Welcome to Turtle Island, who share the stories that sit behind the work. National Indigenous perspectives are explored through the powerful immigration lens of Pier 21, with time given to Mi'kma'ki, to the Mi'kmaq as the First Peoples of this land, and to Mi'kmaw communities across Nova Scotia and the Atlantic region. The workshop then has you making your own artwork while learning a mosaic glass technique, in a medium where Indigenous artists are rarely represented. Ceremony, cultural teachings and personal storytelling from the Anishinaabe, Anisinew and Mi'kmaw Nations run through the day, which is welcoming, accessible and family-friendly, on Halifax's historic waterfront.
