Tinariwen

Tinariwen more or less invented desert blues. The Tuareg collective came together in 1979 in Tamanrasset, an oasis town in southern Algeria, around Ibrahim Ag Alhabib — who as a boy saw his rebel father executed during Mali's 1963 uprising — and fellow exiles he met there. From weddings in the exiled Tuareg community to the world's biggest stages, their hypnotic guitars and Tamashek vocals earned the Grammy for Best World Music Album with Tassili in 2012. Their tenth album, Hoggar, arrived in March 2026, recorded back home in Tamanrasset.
