Formed in 1983 by brothers Michael and Robert Sweet with guitarist Oz Fox, Stryper took Christian metal into the mainstream. Their 1986 album To Hell with the Devil went platinum in the United States and remains the band's commercial high point. After splitting up in 1993, they eventually returned and are still on the road.
