Insomnium

Insomnium is a Finnish melodic death metal band formed in Joensuu in 1997. Their dark, elegiac songs draw on poets such as Edgar Allan Poe and Eino Leino. Albums like Above the Weeping World (2006) and One for Sorrow (2011) shaped Finnish melodeath, while 2016's Winter's Gate became their first number one at home. Anno 1696 followed in 2023.
