Cabaret Voltaire

Formed in Sheffield in 1973, Cabaret Voltaire helped write the vocabulary of British industrial and electronic music, working with tape manipulation, drum machines and sound collage. The original trio was Richard H. Kirk, Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson. The name is borrowed from the Zurich nightclub where the Dada movement began in 1916.
