American singer-songwriter Bill Callahan, born in 1966, spent years recording as Smog, starting out with homemade lo-fi tapes cut on a four-track. Signed to Drag City ever since, he gradually polished his sound, working with producer Jim O'Rourke among others. His deep baritone and free-form, repetitive song structures that skip the usual verse-chorus mold have made him a revered figure in indie folk.
